Hawaiian Monk Seal: When you think about a seal many people know that most seals would prefer to be in cold waters that is teaming with food. The Hawaiian monk seal is a rare species that actually loves the nice warm beaches. That is where you can find them laying on the sand enjoy the sun just like us! They are known to live for about 30 years and can reach up to seven feet in length. You won’t likely see them on the same beach that you are hanging out on. You have to venture out to some of the islands that are not habited by people. They live near the reef so that they have access to food when they need it. If you are lucky enough to spot one of these guys it is best to stay clear. They are a protected species and have even thought at one point to have been extinct.
Hawaiian Sea Turtle: Who wouldn’t want to come across a huge Hawaiian sea turtle on their travels? These amazing creatures are often spotted near the bottom of the sea floor enjoying algae or getting their shell cleaned. The turtles will come to the surface for air and don’t normally travel very fast which makes them a must see when sailing or snorkeling around the islands.
Humpback Whale: The humpback whale is a creature that is viewed in reverence by most. They weigh in up to 40 tons and can reach all the way to 60 feet in length. A chance sighting of one of these in the clear Hawaiian waters is often enough to fill a bucket list. The feed on krill that is found around the ocean and the great thing is that they are seen often during particular months around the Hawaiian islands. Taking a tour out to get a glimpse of one of these is your best bet at seeing them.
